R.E Design is a company setup for custom and stock plans. The company's services includes alteration work from interior and exterior to the engineering of components. The design part of the business will deal with projects from pleasure craft to charter vessels, mono to multi-hulls, power or sail. We are also available for consultancy work or project management.Boat Builder
This part of our business is set up to complement our design service. Our work includes new Vessels of composite or timber construction and alteration work to existing vessels. Our workshop is based at Matakohe on the Kiapara but we are available to repair damage and/or deterioration to vessels from Auckland through to the Bay of Islands, this includes insurance repairs. R.E boat-builders is available for interior fit-outs and refits and will if required co-ordinate sub-contractors from engineers through to sail-makers.
Richard Edlin - Profile
Richard Edlin has been involved in the marine industry for the past 18 years. He was bought up as a sailor from a young age when his uncle introduced him to sailing keelboats. Richard has also been a competitive yachtsman and has done hundreds of sea miles both sailing and power boating from the age of 11.He has always been interested on the theory behind sail and motor-yachts. From a young age he had been designing and building model boats. By the time Richard reached 15 he had decided to learn how to build boats of varying construction methods to complement his budding design ability.
At 16 Richard designed and built his first sailboat, the 8 meter harbour and coastal cruiser-racer MIX T MOTIONS. At 22 he started his own Business designing and building pleasure boats to which he still operates.
